Crofton FFA Members Bring Home State Awards

 Story image 1_0

Crofton FFA members traveled to Lincoln to take part in the State FFA Convention recently.  This year's theme was "Live a Legacy".  Members have been dedicated and working all year towards the opportunity to attend State FFA and it paid off!  The three days were filled with leadership workshops, business and award sessions, speakers, competitions, vocal and other talent performances, visits to the career fair and exhibitor booths and some fun. Forty-four senior high school members, Mrs. Mann and chaperones Janita Kube and Steve Tammen were in Lincoln April 8th through the 10th.  Eighteen junior high members and chaperones Julie Dather, Lois Tindle and Darrell Wubben were in Lincoln for the junior high experience on Friday, April 10th.  The junior high activities included quiz bowl, leadership workshops and the People in Ag presentation competition.  There were more than 5,000 members and guests present for the State FFA proceedings.

Crofton did an outstanding job and the following individuals or teams earned honors at the State FFA Convention:  Haley Arens, gold medal finalist in FFA Creed Speaking; Kyla Dendinger, Abby Steffen, Allison Tramp and Chelsea Wortmann, gold rating in Agricultural Demonstration; Allison Arens, Mariah Sage, Tanner Schiferl, Lily Steffen, Kaitlynn Vornhagen and Maria Wortmann, 1st Place in Livestock Management – Dairy; Samantha Altwine, Justin Goeden, Kris Koch, Kelsey Sanger, Lauren Steffen, Krista Zavadil and Nicole Zavadil, silver rating in Jr. Parliamentary Procedure (with a note stating, “SO close to gold!”); Cole Steffen, silver medalist in Sr. Public Speaking; the Natural Resources team of Brent Evans (Red), Justin Goeden (Purple), Tory Tammen (Blue) and Krista Zavadil earned a purple; the Agricultural Sales team of Brittany Guenther (Blue), Samantha Guenther (Purple), Tyler Koch and Katie Petersen earned a blue; the Floriculture team of Molly Bossman, Rachel Jungclaus (Red), Kendy Kube and Vanessa McFarland (Red) earned a red; the Nursery/Landscape team of Breanna Allen (Red), Mariah Dendinger (Blue), Brittany Guenther and Keeley Hagge (Red) earned a red.  Other individuals placing included Samantha Altwine (Red) and Lane Weidner (Red) in Veterinary Science; Haley Arens (Purple), Madisen Kube (Red) and Kara Eskins (White) in Agriscience; Kris Koch (Blue) and Samantha Altwine (White) in Agronomy; and Kali Pavlik (Blue) and Lily Steffen (Red) in Food Science.  Allison Altwine earned a perfect score; Danielle Steffen earned a 94 and Mariah Dather earned second place with their Jr. High People in Agriculture Poster presentations!

One of the highlights was when Ronnie Ausdemore, Samantha Guenther, Tyler Koch and Abby Steffen were announced as the newest Crofton FFA members to have earned the State FFA Degree!  It is the highest honor a member can receive at the state level.

In addition, Tory Tammen and Cole Steffen performed with the State FFA Honor Choir and both were selected to perform solos during the convention.  Great job Crofton FFA members!
