Crofton FFA Members Bring Home Team Championship Trophies
The FFA District Dairy Selection Contest was held in Hartington on September 20, 2016. District 4 is made up of 14 schools from Northeast Nebraska. The contest consists of judging four classes of dairy cattle including aged cows, two-year old cows, breeding heifers and holstein calves; one linear evaluation; and a general knowledge dairy test including sire selection and dairy herd record evaluation. There is a lot of knowledge, decision making and problem-solving involved.
Twenty-five Crofton FFA members competed for individual and team awards. The senior team of Mariah Dather, Jessica Lange, Mariah Sage, Taylor Tindle, Tyler Janssen, Danielle Steffen, Mikenna Stevens and Jake Neuhalfen earned first place. Fewer than half of the members competing earn ribbons. Placing is on the Danish system with purple, blue and red rankings. Individually, Mariah Dather earned first place purple; Jessica, Mariah Sage and Taylor earned blue ribbons;and Tyler and Danielle earned red ribbons.
The Junior High team of Jaisa Hoffart, Alexis Folkers, Jayden Jordan, Erica Tindle, Ella Wragge, Jada Schmidt and Kaley Einrem also earned the first place division trophy! Individually, Jaisa earned second place purple; Alexis earned a blue; and Jayden, Erica, Ella and Jada earned red ribbons.
The Junior team earned fourth place. Junior team members included Jarrin Sage, Jack Lange, Casper Guenther, Calvin Dather, Cody Crosley and Jaden Zimmerman. Jarrin, Jack and Casper earned blue ribbons and Calvin and Cody earned red ribbons.
The Alternate team consisting of Jared Janssen, Colby Zuhlke, Paul Burbach and Stran Sage also earned fourth place overall. Individually, Paul and Jared earned red ribbons.
