Eight Crofton High School Choir students have won a spot for this year’s Nebraska School Activities Association’s National Anthem competition. In early September, emails were sent out from NSAA to choir teachers around Nebraska for the chance to audition groups or soloists and then have the an opportunity to sing the National Anthem at a 2017 state event.

The due date for the auditions was September 29, and Crofton Choir teacher Katie Kleinschmit submitted a group audition including Quinn Schieffer, Hannah Steffen, Sydney Tramp, Haley Arens, Tyler Janssen, Gavin Potts, Gabriel Potts and Jamis Hendrix. She also submitted two soloist auditions by Kelsey Schieffer and Quinn Schieffer. Audition winners were chosen October 23 in an email that included where and when they would be singing and for what sport they would be singing.

The group of eight was chosen out of many other auditions around Nebraska. Kleinschmit and her students are very excited for this chance and the opportunities it could mean for future competitions. “ This is a great way to showcase our talent on a state level,” Kleinschmit said. The CHS group will be singing the National Anthem at Memorial Stadium on November 20 for the D1 football state championship. It will also be televised on NET at 10:12 a.m.
