On Wednesday, October 25th Family Career and Community Leaders of America students from Crofton attended the District Leadership Conference held in Norfolk at Northeast Community College. Nine students joined surrounding chapters within the district for the yearly meeting within District 8. The Norfolk color guard presented the flags and Neligh-Oakdale performed the national anthem.

Students were able to participate in a number of events throughout the day. Keynote speaker and Crofton High School Nurse Jackie Freeman talked about wellness and her life of running.  She has run in numerous marathons including the Boston Marathon. Freeman covered 16 points on how to accomplish goals and be successful within one’s life. Shayla Barr, District Representative and CHS student, stated “Thank you to Jackie Freeman for keynote speaking and representing our school so well!”

Breakout sessions were also available including information on Bright Horizons and domestic violence, Jazzercise, culinary skills and majors within Nebraska, and State Officer William Wilton speaking about leadership.

Crofton students also participated in many events to win awards for their hard work put toward these FCCLA projects. Kalli Mueller, Valerie Kaiser, Bailey Neuhalfen, Julie Jones, and Abbey Maibaum competed in Quiz Bowl on knowledge of FCCLA facts. Brittany Tramp received first place in the creed speaking competition on what the FCCLA creed means to her.  Julie Jones was also recognized for finishing all five units of Power of One. Door prizes and bucket auctions were held to conclude the busy day.
