Upcoming Basketball Seasons for the Warriors Just Taking Off

Basketball season is just beginning for the Warriors at Crofton High School. Both boys and girls teams spent a week of open gym following up to the debut winter sports practice which started November 13th.

The girls basketball team have two returning seniors this year, Lauren Arens and Madisen Kube. “Our returning players will certainly need to be our leaders and take a bigger role on the team this year. They will be counted on to help the younger girls improve each day” said head coach Aaron Losing. He also commented the girls have been on time for all practices and have been putting forth very good effort to get better at each practice. The team's main focus so far has been to teach some of the basic fundamentals and aspects of the game.

Coach Losing stated that the upcoming season will be a season where they learn a lot about themselves. Sticking together as a team, staying positive throughout the year and focusing on improving every day will be the key to a successful season this year. “We are excited for the upcoming season and we will have the ability to become a very good team by the end of the season if we show the commitment to get there.”

The boys basketball team has one returning senior, Noah Lancaster, and one new senior, Dylan Hoffman, leading the Warriors this year. “Noah Lancaster is the only returning varsity player but we also have many juniors and sophomores that earned a lot of playing time on Junior Varsity that are ready to make the transition up to the Varsity level” said boys basketball coach John Connot. Coach Connot also commented with the grueling schedule that the boys play, they want to be very competitive in every game and be in position to win games at the end.

The boys lost nine seniors from last year and are anxious to see who will step up and be leaders for the team. Getting in game shape and developing good practice habits were some of the main goals of the boys in the first week of practice. They were also working out which roles players will be playing, as they will have five new starters this season. “It will be exciting to see how everything goes for the season as it will be a completely different team than last year” Connot said.

The girls will have their first game Thursday, November 30th against Hartington Cedar Catholic held in Crofton. The boys will have their first game Friday, December 1st against Laurel Concord Coleridge held in Laurel with the girls also joining them.
