Youth After-School Program
When Charlie Hendrix’s family moved to Crofton they were surprised to find that there was no youth group. So Hendrix decided to build a program for kids and teenagers in Crofton. “I wanted something with a positive outlet” said Hendrix.
The idea was proposed in the summer of 2014 and was started the following summer. The group has been a great success with student participation from the Crofton school district.
The students participate in service projects, fun ideas they come up with themselves and parks and recreation activities. The group also wants to start taking field trips to places they would enjoy.
The program is supported by the city council, others from the county and is funded by the State. “It is amazing to watch kids shine and show leadership. We love the sparks of creativity and their opinions they share,” said Hendrix.
The youth program is at the city auditorium every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 4:00 p. m. to 6:00 p. m. The program has watched these kids make a difference in the community.
Students are currently planning a New Year’s Party. It will be on January 2 at the city auditorium. There will be games at 7:00 p. m. for all ages. Then from 8:30 p. m. to 10:00 p. m. there will be a dance for ages 14 and up.
“We are so proud of the youth in this program. I don’t think they know how awesome they really are,” said Hendrix.
