CHS Speech Team Takes Gold
The Crofton High School speech team visited Winside, Nebraska and came out on top with 415 points on Saturday, February 2. Humphrey Public Schools finished second with 364 points. Wausa finished in third with 349 points. Crofton competed against other schools in their district, such as Lutheran High Northeast and Laurel-Concord-Coleridge. The CHS speech team also competed against strong competitors Wausa, Humphrey Public Schools, and Homer, coached by former speech alumna, Katie Mueller.
Crofton had competitors make finals in all events except oral interpretation of serious prose. Connor Dahl and Hannah Van Heek placed fourth in duet acting. Taylor Schieffer placed second in informative speaking and sixth in extemporaneous speaking. Tyler Janssen placed third in oral interpretation of humorous prose. The group of Thomas Honeywell, Connor Dahl, Miles Bossman, Gabriel Potts, and Tyler Janssen placed first in oral interpretation of drama (OID). Hannah Steffen placed third in entertainment speaking. Haley Arens placed first in oral interpretation of poetry and second in persuasive speaking.
CHS head coach Mitch Hofer has high hopes for the speech team’s future. “It’s also very exciting to see how many competitors we have on the cusp of breaking into finals. I trust that with a little more time and work, we could consistently be medaling twice as many kids as we did today.”
