Crofton Speech Team Takes First in Wausa

 

On Saturday, February 10, the Crofton speech team headed to Wausa for one of their final meets before the postseason starts. After all was said and done, Crofton went home with 23 medalists throughout varsity and JV. Both teams took home first in their respective team sweepstakes.

On the varsity end of things there were 14 people who came home with one or more medals. Haley Arens brought home the championship for both Oral Interpretation of Poetry and Persuasive Speaking. Miles Bossman, Tyler Janssen, Connor Dahl, Gabriel Potts, and Thomas Honeywell were the Oral Interpretation of Drama (OID) champions. Hannah Steffen was the runner-up in Entertainment Speaking. Taylor Schieffer placed second in Extemporaneous Speaking and fifth in Informative Speaking. Connor Dahl and Hannah Van Heek took third in Duet Acting. Tyler Janssen also placed third in Oral Interpretation of Humorous Prose. Taylor Jansen brought home fourth in Oral Interpretation of Serious Prose. Sydney Tramp placed fourth in Persuasive Speaking. MaKenzie Mellem and Kaylee Koch walked away with sixth in Duet Acting.

The JV team also had a decent amount of success at this meet. When it comes to Extemporaneous Speaking, Sydney Tramp was the champion. Connor Arens placed third, followed by Abby Steffen in fourth and Lance Joslin in fifth. Kelsey Schieffer was the Oral Interpretation of Poetry runner-up. Ryah Ostermeyer placed third in Entertainment Speaking, followed by Gavin Potts in sixth. Hope Steffen placed fourth in Informative Speaking. Dylan Hoffman and Christian Kleinschmidt earned fourth in Duet Acting, ahead of Quinn Schieffer and Kelsey Schieffer in fifth, and Lauren Buschkamp and Allie Dahl in sixth. Quinn Schieffer, Gavin Potts, Lauren Buschkamp, Hope Steffen, and Allie Dahl took fifth in OID. Abby Steffen placed sixth in Oral Interpretation of Serious Prose.

Several others were extremely close to breaking finals. Kalli Mueller, Hannah Steffen, Hannah Van Heek, MaKenzie Mellem, and Kaylee Koch were one place from making finals in OID. Kalli Mueller was also one place out of informative speaking. Calvin Schieffer was two places out of Oral Interpretation of Humorous Prose finals. And lastly, Lauren Buschkamp was one place out of finals for JV Extemporaneous Speaking.

The Wausa Speech Invitational was a very good meet for Crofton, with many people placing in finals. The Crofton speech team can only hope that they can claim success again at their home meet in Crofton this Saturday, February 17. For those who would like to attend, the meet is at Crofton High School and begins at 8:00 a.m.
