Crofton Speech Team Divides and Conquers
On Saturday, March 3, the Crofton Warrior Speech Team split up. The district team headed to Norfolk for the 6th Annual Norfolk Panther Classic meet while some went to Creighton for the Creighton Bulldog Invitational.
The Norfolk Panther Classic is an all class tournament, meaning schools from every class, A-D2, were at this meet. Due to this, the tournament has multiple divisions of finals: Champs, Honors, Merit, and Consolation. This meet is also the most competitive competition that Crofton will attend this season.
There were a total of 40 schools competing at this meet, and overall, Crofton placed 13th. A total of four events broke one of the four divisions of finals here. Tyler Janssen placed first in Honors Humorous Prose Finals. The OID consisting of Tyler Janssen, Connor Dahl, Miles Bossman, Thomas Honeywell, and Gabriel Potts took third in Honors Finals. Sydney Tramp earned sixth place in Honors Persuasive Speaking Finals. Hannah Steffen placed third in Merit Entertainment Finals. Both Janssen and Tramp have qualified for the National Individual Events Tournament of Champions (NIETOC) this coming May in Denver. Whether they will attend or not is undecided.
At the Creighton Bulldog Invitational, there were five events that broke finals. Four of them were novice with one varsity.
In novice, Abby Steffen placed fourth in Oral Interpretation of Serious Prose along with the runner-up position in Extemporaneous Speaking. Hope Steffen took third place in Informative Speaking with Kelsey Schieffer placing third in Oral Interpretation of Poetry.
In varsity, Lance Joslin took home sixth place in Extemporaneous Speaking.
In light of how competitive the Norfolk meet was, this was a successful weekend for Crofton.
