Crofton High School Wins District Speech Meet, Qualifies Nine Events for State

Crofton High School speech team members and coaches traveled down the road to Hartington, Nebraska on Wednesday, March 14, to compete at the C2-3 district competition. The team brought eighteen entrees, with sixteen of them making their way to finals at the meet, and nine of the finalist punching their tickets to state by placing in the top three. Crofton also took home the district team title, edging runner-up Hartington-Newcastle by 387 to 295 team points. Medalists from Crofton include:

Haley Arens - Persuasive Speaking Champion

Hannah Van Heek and Connor Dahl - Duet Acting Champions

Miles Bossman, Tyler Janssen, Connor Dahl, Gabriel Potts, and Thomas Honeywell - Oral Interpretation of Drama Champions

MaKenzie Mellem and Kaylee Koch - Duet Acting Runners-up

Kalli Mueller, Hannah Steffen, Hannah Van Heek, MaKenzie Mellem, and Kaylee Koch - Oral interpretation of Drama, 3rd place

Hannah Steffen - Entertainment Speaking, 3rd place

Taylor Schieffer - Extemporaneous Speaking, 3rd place

Taylor Schieffer - Informative Speaking, 3rd place

Kalli Mueller - Informative Speaking, 4th place

Tyler Janssen - Oral Interpretation of Humorous Prose, 4th place

Lauren Arens - Oral Interpretation of Poetry, 4th place

Steven Maibaum - Entertainment Speaking, 5th place

Connor Arens - Extemporaneous Speaking, 6th place

Calvin Schieffer - Oral Interpretation of Humorous Prose, 6th place

Sydney Tramp - Persuasive Speaking, 6th place

When asked how she felt heading into the state meet, Senior state qualifier Kalli Mueller said “I’m very excited that such a great team is given the opportunity to compete at the state level with our pieces. Everyone's hard work has really paid off.”

The state meet will be held this friday, March 23, at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
