Bus Safety Reminders
Recently, there have been multiple incidents of adults and students being called in for traffic violations, more specifically involving school buses. Violations against buses are a zero tolerance ticket, receiving no warning and an automatic fine of 500 dollars.
One CHS student advises, “Steer clear of parked buses, because it might not be entirely clear if it is safe or legal to drive near a bus.”
To avoid unnecessary tickets, follow these guidelines.
It is illegal to pass a bus that has its amber flashing lights on or its stop sign out and red flashing lights on. On an undivided highway where a bus is stopped, it is illegal to pass that bus. If a bus is stopped on a divided highway, however, it is legal to drive past that bus on the other side of the median.
Theses violations may come with a hefty fine, but these guidelines are in place to insure the safety of students boarding and disembarking buses.
