August 2013

Dear Fourth Grade Parents,

Welcome to the 2013-2014 school year!  My name is Ms. Hebbert and I have been teaching at Crofton Elementary for 20 years.  I have 24 years of teaching experience and I have taught all subject areas in third through sixth grade.  When I am not teaching I enjoy reading, walking, cooking/baking, traveling and spending time with my family and friends.

Fourth grade is a transitioning year into the upper elementary.  Your child will have me for a homeroom teacher and the subjects of reading, writing, grammar, spelling, social studies and art.  They will see Mrs. Schurman for science and Mrs. Stubbs for math.  They will each be responsible for having their own class materials and assignments ready for all subject areas every day.

Your child will have homework in most subject areas each day.  I do allow some class time for students to work on assignments in my subject areas. If they use their time wisely they should be able to complete most of their homework during the school day except for projects and studying for tests.  Any incomplete homework will be completed at recess and will not receive full credit.  If your child consistently has late work you will be contacted.

The three rules that are being used throughout the school this year are: Be Respectful, Be Responsible and Be Safe.  Students will be given one verbal warning for the first infraction and for each additional infraction the student will serve five minutes of recess time.  If a child does not have any behavior issues for the entire day they will earn a punch on a card.  When it is full they will be able to pick a prize out of my treasure chest.  As a class they also have the opportunity to earn a letter a day for good behavior.  Once they have spelled the word AWESOME, they will be able to play a class game.

I am looking forward to having your child in my class this year!  If you have any comments, questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me.  The school phone is 402-388-4357; my home phone is 605-665-4691 and my e-mail is mhebbert@esu1.org
